Explore data in Google Earth

Get some help with the Data Explorer

Click on the "Explore Data in Google Earth" link or right click and select “save link as” to save the kml file to your own computer then double click the downloaded file. Google Earth should open automatically, if you have the application installed. Alternatively, open Google Earth and select File > Open and navigate to GSBC_Startup.kml. You will be flown to the QUEST study area and presented with a white outline. A link called DATA EXPLORER will be available in the places area of Google Earth and a number of options will be available.

In partnership with Geoscience BC, Timberline Natural Resource Group and Golder Associates have developed a Google Earth-based Query tool for the exploration of the QUEST project geochemical data recently reanalysed by Geoscience BC.

Being able to query the regional geochemical data provides the user an extra dimension of visualisation. Instead of seeing every point and having to discern which are the points of interest, the user is able to input specific criteria into a web form and the result will be the selected points which match the criteria, delivered directly into Google Earth. This way each user is empowered with a tool to allow for the exploration of the Geoscience BC data, interacting with it rather than simply witnessing it.

The data explorer currently includes three QUEST Project geochemical datasets released by Geoscience BC in 2008. All QUEST datasets and reports can be downloaded from Geoscience BC. The geochemical datasets used in the data explorer include:
