In partnership with Geoscience BC, Timberline Natural Resource Group and Golder Associates have developed a Google Earth-based Query tool for the exploration of the QUEST project geochemical data recently reanalysed by Geoscience BC.
Being able to query the regional geochemical data provides the user an extra dimension of visualisation. Instead of seeing every point and having to discern which are the points of interest, the user is able to input specific criteria into a web form and the result will be the selected points which match the criteria, delivered directly into Google Earth. This way each user is empowered with a tool to allow for the exploration of the Geoscience BC data, interacting with it rather than simply witnessing it.
The data explorer currently includes three QUEST Project geochemical datasets released by Geoscience BC in 2008. All QUEST datasets and reports can be downloaded from Geoscience BC. The geochemical datasets used in the data explorer include:
Geoscience BC Report 2008-3: QUEST Project Sample Reanalysis (released January 2008)
Summary: As part of the QUEST Project initiative, a selection of archived stream sediment samples have been reanalyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This technique provides a wide range of new analytical information at improved detection levels plus greater data compatibility with analytical methods currently being employed.
This report includes results for a total of 4481 stream sediment pulps in NTS map sheets 93A, 93B, G, and N and parts of NTS map sheet 93H. These government-funded surveys were originally conducted in the 1980s (Lett, 2005).
It should be noted that although efforts have been made to include samples from the target survey areas, there are gaps in the final data set due to missing sample material. Samples from the east portion of map sheet 93H were deliberately not included.
Geoscience BC Report 2008-5: Regional Lake Sediment and Water Geochemical Data – Northern Fraser Basin, Central British Columbia (parts of NTS 093G, H, J, K, N & O) (released April 2008).
As part of the 2007 QUEST Project, Geoscience BC funded an in-fill lake sediment and water survey plus the reanalysis of sample pulps from a previous lake survey. Results from this work will contribute to the geochemical coverage of the province, complement existing private and publicly available geoscience data sets and provide the mining and exploration community with new, high-quality geochemical information.
Geoscience BC Report 2008-5 includes results of the 2007 in-fill survey as well as original data and new inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) results from a 1995 survey previously conducted in the adjacent Stuart Lake area.
Geoscience BC Report 2008-7: Regional Stream Sediment and Water Geochemical Data – Pine Pass (NTS 093O), British Columbia (released May 2008).
In 2007, the Northern Development Initiative Trust and Geoscience BC funded a reconnaissance-scale stream sediment and water survey covering NTS map sheet 93O - Pine Pass. Geoscience BC Report 2008-7 includes results of the 2007 survey.
About Geoscience BC
Geoscience BC is an industry-led, industry-focused not-for-profit society. Its mandate includes the collection, interpretation and marketing of geoscience data and expertise to promote investment in resource exploration and development in British Columbia. Geoscience BC is funded through grants from the Provincial Government and works in partnership with industry, academia, government, First Nations and communities to attract mineral and oil & gas investment to BC.
